So much of my journaling organization and layout comes from the inspiration of others. Today is National Truth and Reconciliation Day in Canada. Learning about and celebrating Indigenous peoples & perspectives is a huge part of my teacher work, and I am always aware of my position to model what this looks like to my students and student teachers. A book that has helped me learn is "21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act" by Bob Joseph, and a book that has helped me celebrate Indigenous peoples is “Braiding Sweetgrass” by Robin Wall Kimmerer. I respectfully acknowledge the traditional and unsurrendered territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), and Qayqayt peoples where I live, work, and play.
