I’m writing a book!

Having just finished my fifteenth year as a teacher, there are some projects I’ve done over & over with my students that are always successful. Model-making is a favourite, & papier maché is chaotic but worth it. Any project using a big poster is a hit, …or glitter (but why….).

Above all, there is one project that takes the cake. It’s a project that I myself have done nine years in a row, & don’t foresee myself stopping anytime soon (a bold statement, I know).

Many of you have heard me talk about my journals, & lots of you know that I love creating entries as much as I love sharing them. When I started journaling alongside my students, I thought I was simply giving them space to share whatever stories they wished, hoping to read their ideas & creativity. I had no idea that this project would bring me so much joy as well, & ultimately, bring my students & I closer together.

Year after year, former students & also friends who journal because of conversations we’ve had, tell me what an impact journaling has had on them. Now, having also taught the joy of journaling to my student teachers this past year at Simon Fraser University, I realize: This is bigger than the classroom. It is time to make some moves…

To spread the word about journaling & alllll its joy, I have signed a publishing deal with TSPA. I am working with a fabulous team of editors, designers, marketers & managers who are helping me publish my book in the coming year. While I know tons about journaling & how to help anyone get started (which, hint, is what my book will be about), I have no idea how to publish a book & give it a go ~ safe to say I’m excited & also slightly terrified about this process!

All heightened emotions aside, I’m so glad you’re here to join me in my book journey! Over the coming months I’ll send you some behind-the-scenes updates as well as some journaling & book-writing insights.

Thank you for being the people I want to share news like this with! Your support means the world to me : )
