Traveling + journaling = A perfect match

Mexico City was never on my travel must-see list before I went, but a friend of mine was looking for a buddy & I have a habit of saying yes to flights. I’m so glad I went because it was a beautiful, vibrant city with so much to do & see, and also it gets my wheels turning about what I could write about in my journal. And trust, journaling about traveling is such a vibe. I print real hardcopy photos from a photolab & everything and spend quite a bit of time figuring out the entry to match the destination. Travel journaling is the chef’s kiss of entries if you ask me…

One of the great things about travel journaling is that the destination can offer so much to write about. Maybe I’ll draw a map of the places I went to & simply label neighbourhoods. Maybe I’ll write down a little memory from each spot I visited. Journaling like this is almost too easy, like it writes itself.

Prior to my trip, I did an entry on the kinds of outfits I wanted to pack. I call this a list entry, & again, it’s an easy one because it’s simply making a list of what I wish to bring. Maybe other readers might find that boring - what’s in her suitcase? Couldn’t care less. BUT I care. It’s fun to plan all the outfits. And boy did we plan…

Last but not least, using all kinds of photos from my trip to serve as journal prompts is pretty much like Instagram but done by hand. It’s not the ten-photo carousel I’m used to, since usually I can barely fit more than two photos per journal page. But isn’t there something so special about only choosing a few photos to showcase the vacation? Instead of picking them all, I have to be really selective. More intentional. I kinda love that. It helps me be a lot more mindful about what I include in my journal, which is maybe the whole point?... (And….. this is exactttly what I’ll be talking about in my book too btw…)

If Mexico City isn’t on your travel list, I highly recommend you add it. A five-hour direct flight from Vancouver, only a one-hour time difference, & guava croissants to absolutely die for that I had to bring home in my carry-on & eat the next day at work lol. Museums, markets, history, food, helpful locals… Dare I say I might be planning a trip back sooner than later.

Adios for now! Muchas gracias for reading! (My Spanish realllllly flourished lol…)
